I took a photo of Glenmorangie Distillery from the parking lot when I was out there in Scotchy Land. This is a beautiful distillery located in Tain. Glenmorangie (pronounced GLEN-MORE-range-JEE) uses gin pot stills to distill its spirits. I like the distillery from this vantage point because it is built on a slope; you can see a slow incline from left to right. I like to notice little details like that because it's supposed to represent the idea of slowing down and paying attention to the little things that often get overlooked.

I sometimes get caught up in rushing through things that I don't notice the glory of sunlight hitting on rose petals. I think scotch is like that; you have to force yourself to pay attention to its nuances because it always changes. In many ways it reminds me of Graham Greene's writing; it's very controlled, methodical, masterful and calculating, but he pushes just enough edge to go out of his comfort zone, like Glenmorangie's wine-cask finishes, to get a little daring. However, the heart of Glenmorangie is always peach, honey and tropical fruits to me, while top-notes vary. I love the tension an elasticity of the hard and soft. Greene's work is always conservative stylistically in that regard (soft like Glenmorangie's based notes). I love the dichotomy of the new and old. That's why the incline of the distillery is significant to me; you've the option to descend or ascend.
