This piece was made in honor of Lagavulin's 200 Year Anniversary in 2016. I met Pinky, the distillery manager last year, and he let us try old scotches inside the warehouse. Unfortunately, I missed out on Lagavulin's 200 Year Anniversary, but I got to attend in 20015. I picked this image to draw because it reminded me of Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation when he pulled up to the shore of Lagavulin. I like the idea of pulling up to the shore of a distillery and entering a warehouse to drink cask-strength scotches. That sounds like an ideal adventure to me.

I work in the whisky industry and whisky is my passion -- from the actual spirit, to the people who make it to where it is made. After pursuing my dream of a 2-month, solo trip in Scotland, where I dedicated my time to visiting distilleries, I was inspired to draw them and share my art with other whisky lovers.

This is printed on cold press paper. This particular type of paper is thick and textured. It’s usually intended for watercolor pieces because the grooves in the paper hold pigment and water. However, I like the thickness and weight in the paper because I think it gives my prints a more “vintage” look. It costs more than thin, glossy pieces of paper, but I prefer it that way because the quality of cold press paper is better IMHO. I want my images to be meaningful and special like a limited edition whisky.
